Show Print: Analog Design, Process & Printing for Posters in a Postmodern Age

Mike Hepher of Clawhammer Press and Bobby Rosenstock of JustAJar Designs are two artists who have a common interest in letterpress printing and posters, as well as a fondness for the banjo. These two friends will talk about their journeys through the worlds of letterpress printing and poster design.

This casual online lecture is free and open to the public. It is necessary to RSVP in order to receive a Zoom meeting invitation link, which we will send out on the day of the event.

 

biographies

Michael Hepher of Clawhammer Press is an interdisciplinary artist working as a letterpress printer, oil painter, and illustrator. Michael creates with a unique sense of colour, an oblique interpretation of the common, and a relentless pursuit of quality. Credits include various successful exhibitions, public art projects, and private commissions. Notable group exhibitions include work shown in the ‘New Impressions’ exhibit at the Hamilton Wood Type Museum (2019 & 2017) and a feature profile in Uppercase Magazine’s PRINT/MAKER edition of the Encyclopedia of Inspiration. His work has been included recently in international print exhibitions ‘20for20’ (Austin, TX, 2020) and ‘The Art of Protest’ (London, UK, 2022). In 2024 his solo exhibition ‘Natural Geometry’ has been shown in Revelstoke, BC (May/June) and Cranbrook, BC (October). November 2024 saw the opening of a retrospective of 15 years of show posters at his local gallery, The Fernie Arts Station. Michael continues to operate Clawhammer Press from his studio in Fernie, BC.

 

Bobby Rosenstock owns JustAJar Design Press, a letterpress and design studio in Marietta, Ohio. Bobby has a BAFA in painting and printmaking from Alfred University in New York and an MFA in printmaking and book arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He started JustAJar in his garage in 2009 and has grown into a successful letterpress and design studio and retail shop in downtown Marietta. Bobby has created posters for Billy Strings, Jack Daniel’s, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Belle and Sebastian, Post Malone, Soundgarden and more.
