Saturday, April 29, is the 39 th Wayzgoose at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery in Grimsby, Ontario. I will be there. I have missed only a couple of the 39 and that for reasons beyond my control. I relish this opportunity to meet old friends among the printers, binders, and papermakers who attend and to see what new work they have to show. There will be books, signatures, broadsides, and copies of the annual Wayzgoose Anthology, a collection of signatures mostly by the attending printers. This is also the place to meet new printers. If you are within driving distance of Grimsby, you should come too. Not only will you have an opportunity to see everyone’s latest work but also, because most bring items that are still available for sale, have a second chance to buy a book that you passed over in a previous year.
Fine printing and binding is an important cultural endeavour. Your attendance and interest helps to keep it alive. The work is often lonely and the printers need your encouragement. This is your opportunity to provide it.
I have built my private press collection largely from what I have been able to purchase at the Wayzgoose. This is a good place for you to start your collection or continue to build it. Even if you will not be buying, this is the perfect place to start or continue your education.
