Call for new board members

Dear Alcuin Members:

The Alcuin Society Annual General Meeting will be held at the beginning of June this year. As in previous years the AGM offers you the opportunity to consider serving as a member of the Alcuin Board. This year we are seeking expertise in the following areas:

  1. Secretarial skills in minute taking, agenda setting and correspondence.
  1. Expertise related to the operation of the Society’s website, blog and electronic communication.
  1. Skills in developing and executing publicity for Alcuin events and programs.
  1. Executive skills in helping to guide the operations of the Society
  1. Financial and accounting expertise.

In December The Alcuin Society will be offering a five hour introductory workshop on Working With Leather, to be taught by local bookbinder Adele Shaak and will also offer a follow-up workshop in early 2017, in which Adele will give a leather half-bind workshop, to be offered over two half days; the dates for this workshop are yet to be determined. Reserve your spot for the Toronto edition of the Alcuin Book Design Awards!

The Toronto award ceremony for the Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada will be held on October 3, 2016. The event will include a keynote talk by designer Michael Solomon, the presentation of the awards, and an excellent sit-down dinner. The event will open at 5:30 pm for a chance to view the award-winning books, and dinner will follow at 6:30 pm.
