A Victorian Keepsake Book

Before my great-grandmother Edith Cayzer (nee Nicholson) came to  Canada to live on Galiano Island, she began a keepsake book, filled with poetry, drawings and paintings done by friends and relatives, and even some beautifully arranged dried seaweed.

The poetry is in several languages, including French and English; some of the inscriptions original and others are quotations from writers such as Tennyson, Pope and Longfellow.

In 2017 The Alcuin Society will be offered a Bookbinding Workshop in which students will learn to make a half bind book in leather.  An introductory workshop on learning to work with leather will be given on Sunday December 4.  Perhaps the workshop participants will be inspired to create their own keepsake book!  See further details about the workshop on the blog.
